Hi there -- I have some thick braids that I made from long silky pieces ("Yaki Switch" -a MESS!!) anyway, now that they're carefully braided, the bottom looks super choppy and, well, fake looking.
I tried to make it look more natural by taking a razor blade to make the ends more uneven, but it still doesn't look right.. does anyone have any tips or suggestions as to how to finish the ends? Is there any product out there that I can use to smooth them to a point, or something? any closeup pictures of examples that you know of that I can refer to? help!!

Re: how do you
Sun, July 4, 2004 - 2:13 PMhi hon..the only way i know how is that african braiders usually twist and burn the ends with a lighter... but if you are doing blond then it will look funi... and black on the bottom... you could always put beads n the ends of the braids which would take the attention away from the unfinished look...

Thu, July 8, 2004 - 1:02 AMTry shaping them up a bit, then dipping them in boiling water. They usually relax a bit and look more natural looking after being dipped...

Thu, July 8, 2004 - 4:24 PMthanks you guys! --will give the boil 'n dip thing a shot.. Is there any product out there (waxy-like?) that might help keep the shape after it is dry, ya think? -

Re: how do you
Thu, July 8, 2004 - 5:18 PMWell, I don't think you would want to use wax, it will leave a residue to everything it touches. You could use a hair dryer to help keep stuff in place...it is plastic and heat will mold it, you just have to be careful not to heat it up too much so that it melts...

Choose the fibers with care!
Sun, July 11, 2004 - 6:22 AMBit late for now, but next time you might want to stick to using Kanekalon, it is fairly easy to keep in shape after heat treatment - either with boiling water, hairdryer (1800+) or steam.
I've hear Toyokalon seals even better, but is more shiny/unnatural, I've never used it for other than loose falls myself tho'.
On the one you have now, maybe some clear drying glue will do the trick, if you manage to "hide" it...
Good luck :)
